LONDON: Nepali Sahitya Bikas Parishad UK has announced the winners of the poetry contest held in November.
Altogether 17 contestants had participated in the competition which was jointly organized by the Parishad and Kosheli Sanskritik Pariwar UK on the occasion of the birth anniversary of poet laureate late Laxmi Prasad Devkota on November 15 last year.
According to the results, Bisesh Guragain is declared the winner for his poem "Bisthapit" (displaced). Likewise, Ajita Simkhada and Pratibha Bohara are named the second and third, for their poem "Nurse" and "Anibhavbhitra Aama" (Mother in my experience), respectively.
Sushila Karki and Mira Angbohang's poems fetched them consolation prizes in the contest. The prizes will be awarded to the winner poets during the forthcoming general assembly of the Parishad.
A two-member committee comprising senior journalist Khagendra Nepali and renowned poet Gopi Krishna Prasain had chosen the winners.
According to Suresh Jung Shah, General Secretary of the Parishad, such contest will be helpful in preserving the Nepali Diasporas' literature and singling out new poets.
