Illegal restaurant staff arrested

Eight people were arrested when immigration chiefs carried out a series of raids at restaurants in Berkshire.

The UK Border Agency arrested three Brazilian men in Frankie and Benny's restaurant, Shepherds Hill, Reading, on Wednesday.

Police were then led to an address in Liverpool Road where they found two Brazilian women with expired visas.

Three Nepalese men were also uncovered working at the Gurkha Square restaurant in Gun Street.

The two Brazilian women, aged 22 and 24, have since been deported.

The UK Border Agency said the six remaining men have been taken to an immigration detention centre pending their removal.

Both businesses face fines of up to 10,000 per person unless they can prove that they carried out the correct right-to-work checks on staff, a spokesman said.
